At the beginning of EVERY SHIFT, forklift operators and floor managers should inspect your forklift’s mast chains while inspecting the forklift's lift/lower systems. Watch for these warning signs when inspecting the chains.
DAILY INSPECTION LIST includes:
1. BROKEN LINKS
Typically caused by excessive force, such as dropping a load or operating on uneven ground, broken links are easily recognizable during inspections.
2. TURNED PINS
Often caused by insufficient lubrication, a lone turned pin stands out as a crucial warning, indicating the likelihood of encountering additional issues within the mast chain. Addressing this early can prevent further complications and ensure the optimal performance of your forklift.
3. CHAIN WEAR
Over time, forklift chains naturally experience wear and elongation. Using a chain gauge to measure these changes is essential. If elongation is detected, it indicates the need for replacement.
